Vol. 437 No. 1

Written Answers. - Petitions for Reduction in Fines.

Robert Molloy

Question:

83 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Justice the number of petitions for reductions in fines imposed by the Courts which have been decided since 1 January 1993, in respect of each county or other administrative unit applicable; the number of decided cases where the reduction was 50 per cent or greater; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The available information for the period 1 January to 30 November, 1993 is set out below. It would not be possible without an inordinate expenditure of staff time to break down the statstics to give more precise information.

County of residence of petitioner

Number of all petitions finalised in 1993 (to end Nov.) [including those for mitigation of fines]

Petitions finalised by full remission of fines
