206 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education the number of students whose parents were in each of the categories, PAYE only, PAYE and other, full-time farmers, part-time farmers and other, social welfare recipients, self-employed and other categories, who received higher education grants and ESF grants in 1992-93.

207 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education the socio-economic groups which qualified for higher education grants and ESF grants in 1992-93.

I am taking Questions Nos. 206 and 207 together.

The information sought by the Deputy about ESF grants awarded in the 1992/93 academic year is currently being compiled in my Department. This will include a breakdown of the number of entrants to non-HEA colleges cross classified by aid category and social-economic background.

In relation to higher education grants, the information sought by the Deputy is not available in my Department in the exact format requested. However, the number of new awards made in the 1992-93 academic year under the higher education grants scheme broken down into socio-economic groups is shown in the following tabular statement.
