Question:243 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Social Welfare the cost of increasing overall social welfare payments by 1 per cent in 1994 and by bringing forward the payment to 1 February.

The estimated cost of increasing all social welfare payments by 1 per cent from July 1994 is £15 million and from February 1994, £31 million. The full year cost of such an increase would be £34 million.
