Question:

304 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the numbers on social employment schemes and the classification of those involved by the sort of work which is being undertaken.

There were 15,600 participants on the Social Employment Scheme on 31 December, 1993. The following is a broad classification of the type of work on which they were engaged: General amenity development (Tidy Towns etc.); School sectretaries and caretakers; Sporting — coaching/care-taking etc.; Arts/Theme Parks; Heritage/Historic; Cultural promotion; Information Services and Working with the disabled.
