Question:602 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Education if she will restore the Junior Certificate Resource Grant which was discontinued in the 1992/93 school year; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Junior Certificate Resource Grant.
In addition to the standard grants payable to post-primary schools in respect of recurrent costs, a total of almost £3 million was paid by my Department by way of special resource grants in respect of each school year from 1989 to 90 to assist in the introduction of the Junior Certificate programme. As the purpose of the grant was to meet additional expenses involved in the introduction of the programme, payment of the special grant ceased when the programme had been introduced in all standards in the junior cycle in 1992.
