Vol. 438 No. 1

Written Answers. - Government Nominees to State Boards.

Mary Wallace

Question:

133 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the gender ratios for direct Government nominees to State boards in 1993; when the Government hopes to have met its stated objective of achieving a minimum of 40 per cent of both men and women among such nominees.

The Programme for a Partnership Government sets the objective that, within four years, each gender will constitute at least 40 per cent of the direct Government nominees to each State board. Of the direct Government nominees appointed in 1993 since this Government took office, 39 per cent were female. At present 25 per cent of direct Government nominees among the membership of State boards are female.
