Vol. 471 No. 3

Written Answers. - Parental Leave.

Brendan Kenneally

Question:

16 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform his views on the recently issued EU Directive on parental leave, particularly regarding the provision of a period of paid time-off work for all fathers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20580/96]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Priority Question No. 1 today and to my reply to Deputy Woods on 11 June 1996 on this subject.

On the specific question of whether the proposed parental leave would take the form of paid time off work I should mention that while this was not addressed in the EU Directive on the Framework Agreement it will be considered in the course of preparing the new legislation.
