Vol. 438 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Waterford Garda Stations.

Godfrey Timmins

Question:

31 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Justice if she will ensure that the Garda stations of Tallow and Cappoquin in west Waterford are kept open and the level of manning increased.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

54 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to the concern of the people in west Waterford regarding the reduction of the manning levels in the Garda stations in the towns of Cappoquin and Tallow; and if she will allay the fears of the public by guaranteeing that these Garda stations will not be closed.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 31 and 54 together.

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed policing arrangements for individual areas, that there are no proposals to close the Garda stations at Tallow or Cappoquin. They also inform me that the manpower levels at these stations have remained unchanged since 1987. The divisional officer is satisfied that the strength of each station is sufficient and there are no proposals to either increase or decrease these levels. He is reviewing the situation at present to see if the service provided to the public from within existing resources can be improved.
