Question:32 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Justice when the paintings recently recovered from those stolen from the Beit collection will be returned to this country; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the four Beit paintings recovered by police in Belgium on 1 September 1993 are in the custody of the Belgian authorities. Discussions are in progress with those authorities on the legal formalities necessary for the return of the paintings. It is hoped that these formalities will be completed shortly.
