Vol. 438 No. 4

Written Answers. - Disabled Person's Maintenance Allowance.

Liz McManus

Question:

280 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the delay experienced by people who are in hospital longer than eight weeks and thereby temporarily lose their disabled person's maintenance allowance and have to reapply when they come out of hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In cases where a person who, prior to admission to hospital had been in receipt of disabled person's maintenance allowance, is discharged from hospital, a notification of discharge is issued to the health board by the hospital and the board then make the necessary administrative arrangements for the restoration of disabled person's maintenance allowance.

I am not aware of any delays in this regard but if the Deputy has details of any individual case, I will arrange to have the case examined by my Department in consultation with the health board concerned.
