Vol. 438 No. 4

Written Answers. - Parents' Charter.

Richard Bruton

Question:

289 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education her views on the production of a parents' charter which would guarantee parents access to information and a role in decision-making.

Parental involvement at school, local and national level has been debated with great enthusiasm and interest in recent months and has been particularly prominent in many of the submissions that I have received and at the National Education Convention. The role of parents in the education system is a very important element in my consideration of policy proposals for inclusion in the White Paper which I hope to publish before the end of the summer.
