Vol. 438 No. 4

Written Answers. - Carrick-on-Shannon (County Leitrim) School.

John Ellis

Question:

292 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the extension and refurbishment of St. Mary's boys national school, Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim; and if provision has been made in the 1994 capital programme for this work.

My Department has been in consultation with the school authorities regarding the possible amalgamation of St. Mary's boys' national school with the convent girls' national school. This is because preliminary indications are that there probably would be sufficient accommodation in the convent national school to accommodate the entire boys' and girls' primary school population in Carrick-on-Shannon in future years. My Department is currently considering the question of the future development of St. Mary's in the light of these consultations.
