Vol. 438 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Wicklow Schools.

Liz McManus

Question:

294 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education her views on the recommendations of the INTO survey of schools currently deemed seriously substandard published in October 1993; the action, if any, she intends to take in relation to the four schools in County Wicklow cited in the report; and when such measures will be implemented.

I welcome the survey in question as an addition to the information already available to my Department which will be taken into account in determining the content of the national school capital programme.

In relation to County Wicklow, major building projects at Glendalough and Kiltegan national schools have been included in my Department's capital programme for 1994 while the question of providing a permanent building at Brittas national school is currently under consideration.

A request for roof repairs has recently been received from St. Peter's boys national school, Little Bray. My Department's professional advisers have been asked for a report in the matter and the question of grant-aiding the repairs will be considered when their report is received.
