Vol. 438 No. 4

Written Answers. - Representations by Company.

Bernard Allen

Question:

45 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will meet a delegation of workers from a company (details supplied) in County Cork, who have been in contact with him on several occasions regarding the affairs of that company.

I have replied to a number of representations regarding the company to which the Deputy refers, both in this House and by correspondence. On the basis of the information conveyed, I am not convinced that a meeting would serve any useful purpose at this stage.

In that I am deeply concerned at the loss of jobs involved, I can assure the Deputy that Forbairt is reviewing the employment issues and will offer any advice or assistance possible to potential new investors.

The Deputy will be aware that the affairs of the company concerned are being administered by a receiver. The various statutory entitlements have been paid to the workers. In that a number of allegations have been made relating to the affairs of the company, and its trading predecessor, I would repeat my view that these matters should be brought to the attention of the receiver at the earliest opportunity with whatever supporting material is available. This would enable the receiver to assess this aspect of the matter, in accordance with the provisions of the Companies Acts, and proceed accordingly.
