Question:96 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Finance the names of communications or media companies used by him or his Department in 1993; the nature of the services provided; and the cost of the services.

Carr Communications Ltd |
This firm is contracted to carry out a variety of different services including assistance and advice on public relations matters generally. The contract is valued at £26,000 per annum excluding VAT and sundry expenses. |

The firm was also separately engaged by the Civil Service Training Centre in 1993 to provide three courses in speech writing for Civil Servants from a number of Departments. The cost of each course was £2,000. |

Aidan Meade Ltd |
This firm was engaged, in 1993, by the Civil Service Training Centre to provide two separate courses on media skills for Civil Servants from a number of Departments. The cost of each course was £1,800. |
With regard to bodies under my aegis, Drury Communications Limited were employed by the Office of Public Works in 1993 at a cost of £60,609.80. Drury Communications Limited supervised and co-ordinated the public consultation process which Office of Public Works were instructed by the Government to carry out in relation to the visitor centres at Mullaghmore, County Clare; the Boyne Valley, County Meath and Luggala, County Wicklow. They were appointed following submissions from a number of firms and their price was the most competitive.
The Office of Public Works is also responsible for the State Advertising contract which was awarded, on 10 June 1991, to Brindley Advertising Ltd, in accordance with Government Contract Procedures and following competitive tendering. The costs incurred by all the offices under my aegis are not readily available but I will let the Deputy have these shortly.
