Vol. 438 No. 4

Written Answers. - Use of Communications/Media Companies.

Jim Higgins

Question:

105 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Social Welfare the names of communications or media companies used by him or his Department in 1993; the nature of the services provided; and the cost of the services.

In 1993 my Department retained the services of Doherty Advertising Ltd. and Walsh Publications Ltd. for advertising and general public relations matters. The Department's campaign — as opposed to classified or routine — advertising has been assigned to a single advertising agency which was selected from seven agencies which were invited to tender and present proposals. The assignment is for a period of not more than two years. No retainer or fees were paid to Doherty Advertising Ltd. by my Department.

Walsh Public Relations Limited are sanctioned to advise on communications matters relating to the Department's schemes and services. The company have been engaged on a contract of one year's duration with fees limited to £15,500 per annum. The total amount paid to Walsh Publications Ltd. was £13,915.
