Vol. 438 No. 4

Written Answers. - Culliton Report Recommendations.

Ivor Callely

Question:

123 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the principal recommendations of the Culliton report; the implication of and the progress with each recommendation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The recommendations of the Culliton report are set out in full in the report itself which was published in January 1992 under the title "A Time for Change — Industrial Policy for the 1990's". The implementation of these recommendations was the subject of consideration by the task force established by the Government under the chairmanship of Dr. Patrick Moriarity. The response of the Government to the Moriarty Task Force on the implementation of the Culliton report was published in "Employment Through Enterprise" (Pl. 9763) in May 1993.

Over 100 separate recommendations are dealt with in "Employment Through Enterprise" and it would not be practicable to describe in this reply the progress which has been made in relation to each of them. My Department is monitoring the position closely and I am satisfied that considerable progress had been made in the period since last May, including in relation to the formulation and implementation of industrial policy, the restructuring of the industrial promotion agencies, taxation policy, the environment and competition policy.

I am in touch with the other Government Departments involved and it is also my intention to publish a full account later this year of the progress made in respect of each recommendation.
