Vol. 438 No. 4

Written Answers. - Job Creation Statistics.

Peter Barry

Question:

129 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of actual jobs created as against those announced during 1993.

In the case of companies approved for assistance by IDA and SFADCo, the two industrial promotion agencies under the control of my Department in 1993, job creation targets are normally scheduled over a number of years, in line with the projected patterns of growth and development in the companies concerned.

While there were many IDA and SFADCo assisted projects during 1993, which were not the subject of public announcements, projects with a total potential of 6,965 new jobs were publicly announced by myself and-or the industrial promotion agencies during the year. These new jobs will be created over a number of years, in accordance with agreed targets. According to IDA's and SFADCo's Annual Employment Surveys for 1993, a total of 17,091 jobs were actually created during 1993. These jobs arose from projects approved in 1993 and in previous years.
