Vol. 438 No. 5

Written Answers. - Galway Sewerage Scheme.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

62 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for his Department's delay in replying to the EC Commission in Brussels regarding matters needing clarification on the application for funding for the Galway main sewerage scheme; the reason there is not a more straightforward manner in supplying information as requested by the Commission in Brussels on those matters; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I refer to the reply to Question No. 88 of 14 December 1993.

An application under the Cohesion Fund (Interim Instrument) for the Galway main drainage scheme was submitted by my Department on 23 June 1993. Additional information was requested by the European Commission on 29 July 1993 and this was sent on 20 August 1993.

The provision available to the Commission in 1993 for allocation to Ireland under the Cohesion Fund (Interim Instrument) was fully assigned. While project approvals did not include the Galway main drainage scheme, the application for this scheme is actively maintained. A further set of project approvals under the Cohesion Fund (Interim Instrument) is expected soon.
