Vol. 438 No. 5

Written Answers. - Eligibility for Community Employment Scheme.

Richard Bruton

Question:

126 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will include widows and those on deserted wife's benefit on the community employment scheme.

Community Employment will be open to persons 21 years or over in receipt of Unemployment Assistance, persons in receipt of Unemployment Benefit for over one year, persons in receipt of Lone Parents Allowance for over one year and other special categories such as those referred by the National Rehabilitation Board.

I have no plans to allow participation on the programme by other categories of persons in receipt of social welfare payments. However, the programme, as with all programmes, will be kept under ongoing review and will be adapted if and when circumstances demand or allow.
