Vol. 438 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Kildare Bypass Drainage Provisions.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

162 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment whether he has satisfied himself that the drainage provisions for the N4 by-pass in the area of Maynooth, County Kildare were deemed adequate by his Department when sanction of the motorway scheme was given; if a review of the matter would now be beneficial; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The then Minister for the Environment by Order dated 17 June 1988 approved by motorway scheme for the Kilcock-Maynooth-Leixlip bypass subject to modifications. The provisions in this motorway scheme relating to drainage are considered satisfactory. The National Roads Authority has, since 1 January 1994, overall responsibility for the planning and supervision of works for the construction and maintenance of national roads, including schemes which are in progress.
