Vol. 438 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Dept GDP-GNP Ratios.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

61 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Finance the present national debt to GDP and the national debt to GNP ratios; and the expected decrease in these ratios during 1994 and by December 1996.

The national debt to GNP and to GDP ratios as of end-1993 are estimated at 102.3 per cent and 91 per cent respectively. These ratios are expected to decline by around 4 percentage points in 1994. Their subsequent evolution depends on a variety of factors which are difficult to predict accurately. It is the Government's firm intention to keep these ratios on a clear downward path.
