Vol. 438 No. 6

Written Answers. - VAT Statistics.

Noel Ahern

Question:

62 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the total VAT collected in 1992 and 1993, including a breakdown by amount collected in each local authority area; and the extra revenue that would accrue from a 1 per cent increase on each of the rates.

The VAT yield was £2,181 million in 1992 and £2,332 million in 1993. VAT returns are not completed in a manner which would enable the yield from each local authority area to be identified.

The full year yield of a 1 percentage point increase in the existing VAT rates is estimated to be as follows: zero rate, £33 million; reduced rate, (12½ per cent), £54 million; standard rate (21 per cent), £87 million.
