Vol. 439 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dundalk (Louth) School.

Michael Bell

Question:

220 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to sanction the provision of an extension for the De La Salle school, Dundalk, County Louth; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that there will be inadequate school places in the Dundalk catchment area for the next term; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Officials from my Department have had discussions with the school authorities of De La Salle Secondary School, Dundalk with regard to the accommodation need of the school. Documentation has now been received from the school and will be examined with a view to determining the appropriate range of accommodation to be provided at the school.

I am aware that in the short term the demand for places in some of the post-primary schools in Dundalk may exceed the number of places available. In the circumstances, an application from any of the school authorities in the centre to cater for the immediate needs will be considered sympathetically.
