Vol. 439 No. 5

Written Answers. - Teachers' Resignations.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

225 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education the number of teachers at primary level and post-primary level who left the service in 1993; and the projected figures for 1994.

The following table beneath sets out the information on the number of national and secondary school teachers who retired from, or died in, pensionable teaching service in the calendar year 1993. Estimates for 1994 are included where possible. Deaths in service cannot be predicted with any degree of certainty.

Vocational teachers who retire are awarded benefits under the local government superannuation scheme administered by the Department of the Environment. Details on these retirees are not kept by my Department.
