Vol. 439 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Mayo Lake Ownership.

Enda Kenny

Question:

127 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the ownership of the waters of Keel Lake, Achill, County Mayo; if his attention has been drawn to flooding problems arising from sluice gates at the river exit there; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

While it would appear from the available records that Keel Lough is the property of the Land Commission, it is not clear from those records who has ownership of the river upon which the sluice in question is built. Furthermore, it would seem from the available records that the sluice which is causing the flooding to which the Deputy refers was not constructed by the Irish Land Commission. However, the Land Commission is continuing its investigation of this complex case and I will be in touch with the Deputy in the matter as soon as possible.
