Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Sargent — The testing of ferries which has taken place since the passing of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1992; the level of progress in this area; and the plans to ensure maximum safety on ferries; (2) Deputy Dermot Ahern — Two incidents which occurred in the Silverbridge area of County Armagh on Thursday, 24 February and Saturday, 26 February 1994, involving civilians and British Army personnel; (3) Deputy McCormack — The reply to Parliamentary Question No. 85 of 24 February 1994, with particular reference to the criteria issued by the Department of Health in relation to patients on waiting lists for orthodontic treatment; (4) Deputy Durkan — Whether eviction is the only resolution in the event of arrears of mortgages on foot of local authority loans, with particular reference to a recent eviction in County Kildare during a snowstorm; (5) Deputy Penrose — The delay in sanctioning and approving the necessary finance for the north-western low level section of the Mullingar regional water supply, which includes Ballynacargy, Moyvore, Ballymore and their hinterlands; and the impact of this delay on local residents and on the development of industry and agriculture in the area; (6) Deputy Theresa Ahearn — The closure of St. Joseph's College secondary school, Cahir, County Tipperary, leaving 120 students without secondary education from July 1994; and the proposals for the continuation of secondary education for the students involved and for the future employment of the present staff; (7) Deputy Michael Kitt — When grants will be approved for St. Brendan's group water scheme, Ballygar, County Galway; and if a supplement grant will be paid towards the scheme; (8) Deputy Sheehan — The need to expedite approval of the tenders submitted by Cork County Council on 19 August 1992, for stage 3 of Skibbereen water supply (improvement) scheme; (9) Deputy Gilmore — The reported offer from British Cable and Wireless for a stake in Telecom Éireann and the implications of this offer for Telecom Éireann as a publicily-owned company; (10) Deputy Enda Kenny — The reported departure of consultants from Mayo General Hospital and the continued confusion regarding phase 2 of the development of facilities at the hospital; and (11) Deputy Dukes — The urgent need for improvement and upgrading of the water supply in Monastervan, County Kildare, in order to provide an adequate service for residents in the Kill and Gurteenoona areas and to permit further development in the Drogheda row area of the town.

The matters raised by Deputies Dermot Ahern, Sheehan, Gilmore and Enda Kenny have been selected for discussion.
