Vol. 439 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Monuments Budget.

Máirín Quill

Question:

24 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Finance the basis on which the 1994 budget for national monuments was arrived at.

An estimate for national monuments for 1994 was formulated by the Commissioners of Public Works in response to the annual Department of Finance Estimates Circular. The estimate was agreed with me before transmission to the Department of Finance. The estimate was based on the commissioners' programmes for conservation, restoration and presentation of monuments; archaeological and architectural surveys; acquisition of important monuments; and the provision of facilities at sites under EU, tourismrelated programme. These programmes were agreed with the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht.

The overall budgetary allocation for national monuments for 1994 was decided by the Minister for Finance following consultation with the Commissioners of Public Works and the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht.
