Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

61 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Finance if the names and addresses of person who paid residential property tax in the years 1991 to 1993 are known to his Department; and the proportion of those who paid this tax in the years 1991 to 1993 who live in Dublin.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that a payment of residential property tax is accompanied by a self-assessed return which contains, among other details, the name and address of the relevant taxpayer. While this information is known to the Revenue Commissioners on an individual case basis, statistics are not recorded in such a manner as would enable the proportions requested by the Deputy to be provided. However, the Revenue Commissioners have recently examined 400 residential property tax returns from the 14,797 residential property taxpayers in 1993. About three-quarters of these live in Dublin. It must be stressed that this was a very limited sample. It should be noted also that the value threshold in 1993 was £91,000.
