Written Answers. - Ministerial Trips.

Ivan Yates

Question:

52 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the total cost of ministerial trips from his Department's Vote in conjunction with St. Patrick's day celebrations throughout the world.

I was on an IDA promotional visit to the United States from 13 to 19 March 1994. The visit was not in conjunction with the St. Patrick's day celebrations.

The Minister of State with responsibility for commerce and technology visited the United States attending St. Patrick's day celebrations in Boston and also undertook IDA promotional business. The estimated cost of the visit by that Minister is £13,000.

Question:

53 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment the total cost of ministerial trips from his Department's Vote in conjunction with St. Patrick's Day celebrations throughout the world.

I represented Ireland in connection with the St. Patrick's Day celebrations at a number of centres in Australia and the Minister of State at my Department, Deputy John Browne, attended a function in London. Full details of costs are not yet available but the total is estimated at about £24,000.
