Question:

74 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the last recruitment examination for various clerical grades into the Civil Service including clerical officer, clerical assistant, clerical assistant data entry and other such grades; the number appointed to each grade; the highest candidate number interviewed for each grade; the number appointed to each grade in Dublin and outside Dublin; and when the next recruitment examination will take place.

The competitions referred to are held by the Civil Service Commission from whom the following details have been obtained.

Clerical Assistant 5/91

Number assigned to date in Dublin:	721
Number assigned to date outside Dublin:	84
Total assigned to date:	805
Placing of last applicant called to interview:	1,222*

*Applicants up to and including place 1962 who had expressed an interest in an appointment to certain provincial locations were also called for interview.

Clerical Assistant Typist 3/91

Number assigned to date:	645
Placing of last applicant called to interview
(Competition A):	359
(Competition B):	701

All assigned to Dublin with the exception of 1.

Clerical Assistant Data Entry 10/90

Number assigned to date in Dublin:	129
Number assigned to date outside Dublin:	67
Total number assigned to date:	196
Placing of last applicant called to interview:	270

The most recent open clerical officer competition was held in 1986. No further competition for this grade is planned at present.

Competitions for all clerical assistant level posts are being advertised on 24 March 1994.
