Vol. 440 No. 6

Written Answers. - Teagasc Employees Work Description.

Liz McManus

Question:

101 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the work that will be carried out by the 100 part-time workers who have been recruited by Teagasc to advise farmers on filling out application forms; and the work that they will be doing once the period for application is completed.

With the concurrence of the Minister for Finance, I recently gave sanction to Teagasc to employ a total of 130 temporary staff to provide a CAP consultancy service to help farmers complete area aid and crop and livestock scheme applications. The service was necessary to help farmers submit applications before the specified closing date for those applications. The staff in question are employed on short term contracts for the duration of the service only. Their contracts are reviewed on a week-to-week basis and will in any event cease at end March 1994.
