Vol. 440 No. 8

Written Answers. - Regional Airports.

Patrick D. Harte

Question:

22 Mr. Harte asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the proposals, if any, he has to improve the financial viability of regional airports.

Major improvements were carried out at the regional airports under the 1989-93 Operational Programme on Peripherality. The policy for regional airports will now be directed towards increasing traffic at these airports.

Accordingly, having secured EU agreement, it is intended to introduce an essential air services programme for the regional airports, aimed at ensuring a minimum level of air services within Ireland to the parts of the country served by the airports, thereby improving the financial viability of the regional airports.
