Question:

26 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the name of the proposed new chief executive to Telecom Éireann has been circulated in the electronic media; if the person named is to be the new chief executive; whether this person will be paid within the Gleeson guidelines on remuneration for chief executives of State companies and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bernard Allen

Question:

36 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the name of the proposed new chief executive to Telecom Éireann has been circulated in the electronic media; if the person named is to be the new chief executive; whether this person will be paid within the Gleeson guidelines on remuneration for chief executives of State companies; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 26 and 36 together.

The appointment of the chief executive of Telecom Éireann is a matter for the board of the company. I have been informed by the chairman that an announcement on the appointment of a chief executive will be made later this afternoon. The person concerned will be paid at a level regarded as appropriate to the post, having due regard to the Gleeson guidelines.
