Vol. 440 No. 8

Written Answers. - Ballygowan (Cork) School.

Paul Bradford

Question:

88 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education if she will provide adequate funding to ensure that an extra classroom will be built at Ballygowan National School, County Cork, in view of the preference of all concerned for the building of such a room rather than the provision of a prefab; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Where an extra classroom is warranted due to the appointment of an additional teacher, it is my Department's general policy to grant-aid a pre-fabricated structure. Grant-aid will be made available in respect of Ballygowan national school on this basis.

However, it is open to the school management, if it so wishes, to offset this grant against the cost of a permanent classroom, with the additional cost being a local liability.
