Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Seán Haughey

Question:

193 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education the offices under the control of her Department which have been relocated from Dublin under the decentralisation programme since the year 1987; the locations of the new offices; the number of jobs transferred; and the further proposals, if any, she has in this regard.

In 1991 parts of the primary and post-primary branches of my Department were re-located to Athlone, County Westmeath. A total of 171 posts were involved in the re-location.

Under the Government's programme of decentralisation, part of the Dublin-based operations of my Department will be re-located in Tullamore, County Offaly, where new offices are expected to be ready for occupation in early 1995. Approximately 175 staff will be based in Tullamore. The following areas/sections of my Department will be involved in whole or in part in the re-location process:
Planning and Building Unit, Vocational/Financial, Free Education/ Data Section, Comprehensive and Community Schools, Information Technology, Accounts Unit, Student Grants, E.S.F. Section, Sports Section, Youth Affairs and Adult Education, School Transport, Personnel, Inspectorate (Primary/Post-Primary/Psychological Service).
