145 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health the cost of overtime in each State-sponsored body under his control in the last financial year for which figures are available; and the number of individuals involved in each instance.
I presume the Deputy is referring to all State agencies for which I am responsible and I am arranging to have circulated in the Official Report a table which sets out the information requested as supplied to my Department by the agencies concerned.
I should explain that the estimated total expenditure of approximately £31 million includes an estimated £20 million in respect of the structured overtime arrangements which apply to non-consultant hospital doctors. The balance is a reflection of annual average overtime payments of £1,269 for the individual staff concerned. Expenditure on overtime in the health services represents less than 3 per cent of the overall Health pay-bill.
