Vol. 441 No. 3

Written Answers - British Pension Holders.

Tony Gregory

Question:

162 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health the liaison that exists between the British Department of Health and Social Security and his Department to facilitate part-payments to persons in this State who are in receipt of British pensions.

Where a person is in receipt of a British pension, this income will be taken into account if he/she applies for benefit under any of the income maintenance schemes administered by the health boards, for example, disabled person's maintenance allowance.

If an applicant for such a benefit has worked in the United Kingdom for any period of time, the health board will contact the overseas branch of the British Department of Social Security to ascertain if he/she has an entitlement to benefit or is receiving benefit from the United Kingdom. The amount of the benefit received under the health board administered scheme is then reduced by the amount of the British pension.
