Question:181 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health the average public bed occupancy for each year from 1991 to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bed occupancy in acute public hospitals was 83.12 per cent in 1991 and 83.38 per cent in 1992. The equivalent 1993 figure is not yet available. Separate occupancy rates as between public and private beds are not available for 1991 and 1992. However, due to the introduction of a more comprehensive hospital reporting system in 1993, this information will be available for 1993 and subsequent years.
