Vol. 441 No. 3

Written Answers - Dungarvan (Waterford) Community Welfare Services.

Austin Deasy

Question:

38 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the unsatisfactory nature of the way in which the community welfare services are being operated by the South Eastern Health Board in Dungarvan town and district, County Waterford, with specific reference to the exceptional need payments; if he will assign a senior official from his Department to investigate the way in which members of the public are being dealt with; and if he will report back to Deputy Deasy on the matter.

I am not aware of any dissatisfaction in relation to the general manner in which the supplementary welfare scheme is being operated in the Dungarvan area. However, I have been informed by the South Eastern Health Board that the Deputy has made representations recently on a small number of cases which have been dealt with in accordance with normal procedures.

If the Deputy has any further cases he wishes to pursue, the health board have assured me that they will investigate them immediately.
