Vol. 441 No. 5

Written Answers. - Teevogue (Donegal) School.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

212 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education in view of the fact that Teevogue national school, County Donegal, is designated as disadvantaged and located in a Gaeltacht area, if she will reconsider the decision to have the teaching staff reduced from three to two.

The staffing of national schools for a particular year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year. The enrolment of Teevogue national school on 30 September 1993 was 57 which warrants a staffing of a principal and one assistant teacher for the 1994-95 school year. The school also has the services of a shared remedial teacher. Accordingly, the second assistant's post will be suppressed with effect from the end of the current school year. The teacher in question has been given the option of having her name placed on the diocesan panel for re-deployment to another school from I September 1994.
