154 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education if a design team has been approved for the proposed new swimming pool in Athlone, County Westmeath; if not the reason for the delay; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
Proposals for the appointment of a design team for the Athlone regional sports centre, which includes provision for a swimming pool, were submitted by Athlone Urban District Council, as client for the project, to my Department in September 1993.
It was not possible to accept this recommendation as it raised a number of complex legal issues on which my Department had to receive legal advice. This advice, which was received on 25 April 1994 is currently under consideration and my Department will write to Athlone UDC in the matter as soon as possible.
