Vol. 441 No. 8

Written Answers. - Higher Education Authority.

Michael Creed

Question:

144 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education the reason the National College of Art and Design is not represented on the higher education authority where funding decisions for the college are made.

The Higher Education Authority Act, 1971, provides that "the members of the Authority shall be a chairman and not more than 18 ordinary members of whom at least seven shall be academic members and at least seven shall be other than academic members".

Persons appointed to the authority, therefore, are not appointed as representatives of any particular institution or college.
