Vol. 442 No. 1

Written Answers. - Divorce Referendum.

Seán Haughey

Question:

90 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform if finance is being made available by his Department and other Government Departments to engage public relations services in order to promote a yes vote in the forthcoming divorce referendum; if so, the amount of money involved; the criteria used to spend this money; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As indicated to the House in reply to Question No. 176 on 19 April, 1994 a sum of £500,000 has been provided in my Department's Estimate for the Government's information programme in the run-up to the divorce referendum. That figure is contained in the Book of Revised Estimates for Public Services, 1994. The heads of expenditure will be on similar lines to those in recent referenda.
