Vol. 442 No. 3

Written Answers. - Liquid Petroleum Gas Systems.

Ivor Callely

Question:

121 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment the progress, if any, that has been made with regard to the making of standards and safety regulations for the installation of liquid petroleum gas storage tanks to motor vehicles; and the mechanism which will be in place to ensure that the fitting of such tanks is in line with standards.

The National Standards Authority of Ireland are developing a new standard to replace the existing one — S.I. 404 of 1987 — in relation to the fitting of liquid petroleum gas systems in motor vehicles. When this new standard has been made, I will give consideration to making it a compulsory standard in regulations under the Road Traffic Act.
