Vol. 442 No. 4

Written Answers. - Deployment of Members of the Defence Forces.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

80 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Defence if there are members of the Defence Forces who have been denied the right to return to their posts with the Ordnance Survey Office, having served on UN peacekeeping duties abroad; and if he will intervene to ensure that members are not discriminated against in this way.

As I informed the House in reply to questions on 22 March 1994 and 13 April 1994, the position is that any member of the military survey company who has come back from overseas service has returned to the Ordnance Survey. This position will remain pending an examination of the military staffing arrangements within the Ordnance Survey in the context of the current review of the Permanent Defence Force by the efficiency audit group.
