Vol. 442 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Seán Haughey

Question:

107 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to allocate an increased grant of 95 per cent to the Church of Ireland national school, Church Avenue, Drumcondra, Dublin 9, following the revamp of the school playground in view of the fact that the cost of the work escalated and in view of the fact that 36 families who use the school are finding it very difficult to raise the extra finance requred; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The maximum grant level for capital works at national schools is set at 85 per cent of the cost. The only exceptions are in respect of schools which are classified as disadvantaged. As the school in question is not designated as such, I regret that my Department is not in a position to sanction an increase in the level of grant-aid for this project.
