Vol. 442 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Equality Proofing.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

3 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Finance the decisions, if any, he has taken that have been equality proofed in 1993; and the criteria used to equality proof decisions taken within his Department.

The Deputy's question is very broad. In relation to decisions taken in my Department in 1993, it would be practically impossible to quantify or to categorise them due to the sheer amount and diversity of the subject matter involved. However, I would like to assure the Deputy that, when examining proposals and making recommendations on decisions to be taken in any areas which would have an equality dimension, my Department has full regard to the equal opportunity policy and guidelines for the Civil Service, to relevant Government decisions in this area and to Government policy on equality as set out in the Programme for Government.
