Vol. 442 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Equality Proofing.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

48 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the decisions, if any, he has taken that have been equality proofed in 1993; and the criteria used to equality proof decisions taken within his Department.

Glacaim leis gurb é atá i gceist ag an Teachta ná measúnú a dhéanamh ar an éifeacht a imrítear ar ghrúpaí éagsúla — mná, mar shampla, nó grúpaí faoi bhac — nuair a bhíonn cinnithe á ndéanamh.

Tugadh suntas i gcónaí do na cúrsaí sin in aon chinnithe a rinne mé ó ceapadh mar Aire mé agus is féidir liom a dheimhniú go leanfaidh an scéal amhlaidh.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

49 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health the decisions, if any, he has taken that have been equality proofed in 1993; and the criteria used to equality proof decisions taken within his Department.

It is not possible to examine retrospectively every decision made by me or by officials of my Department in a 12 month period to establish whether an equality issue arose in any of them. The Deputy may rest assured, however, that all concerned are fully aware of Government policy in relation to the promotion of equity and equality and take due account of this in reaching decisions on the various issues which arise from day to day. I would refer the Deputy in particular to Chapter One of the Health Strategy document which I announced recently, wherein equity is stated to be one of the underlying principles of the strategy.
