Vol. 443 No. 7

Written Answers. - Proposed Meeting with SIPTU.

Liz McManus

Question:

113 Ms McManus asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the fact that representatives from the Docks, Marine and Transport Branch of SIPTU have been seeking a meeting with him for some time and have been refused; the plans, if any, he has to meet with them to discuss the development of a cohesive maritime policy; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have invited the unions to participate fully in the current review of shipping policy and substantive discussions are now underway on the issues involved. I have also indicated my willingness to meet representatives of SIPTU at an early date.

Further discussions will be held between Department officials and SIPTU on 17 June next which will, inter alia, prepare the ground for such a meeting.
